Ceará Craft Center

Description

The Ceará Craft Center (CeArt) is a Fortaleza market that markets handicrafts produced in Ceará .

It emerged in 1979 at the hands of Luiza Távora, then first lady of the state, as a governmental action to foment, develop and organize the craft of Ceará.

The first headquarters of Ceart, designed by the architects Melânia Cartaxo, Nélia Romero, with consulting by the architect Roberto Castelo, used carnaúba trunks in its structure. However, the building eroded over time and a new project had to be erected on site. The new Central was inaugurated in March 1992 .

In 2006 , the total number of artisans registered reached almost 35 thousand

Currently, the agency is linked to the Secretariat of Labor and Social Development. In addition to operating as a market, the Central offers training courses  for craftsmen, promotes actions to take their works to other markets  and houses exhibitions.
