Design Tasmania

Design Tasmania is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to support and sustain design. They have a shop, exhibition space and wood collection that is located on the edge of City Park in Launceston. The Design Tasmania shop is wholly dedicated to Tasmanian design and is perfect place to pick up gifts or a unique piece for your collection.

The centre houses has Australia’s only museum collection of contemporary wood design and a changing program of exhibitions that celebrate the work of local, national and international designers.

The Design Tasmania wood collection is a continuously evolving collection that is deliberately narrow in its scope. It only includes pieces of contemporary wood design made in the state by designers who live and work in Tasmania and is an outstanding collection of pieces that celebrate the uniqueness and variety of indigenous timbers. The collection includes work made from Huon pine, king billy pine, celery top pine, sassafrass and myrtle all of which are special species native to Tasmania.
